Description
Overview and introduction --This DVD features Theresa B. Smith discussing a number of topics that provide a glimpse into the multi-faceted Deaf-Blind community. Among the topics presented are definition and description of the community, individual differences and preferences, becoming involved and setting limits. This unit also uses footage to illustrate aspects of guiding and communication preferences among Deaf-Blind individuals.
Description
Getting involved: a conversation --Two presentations of a 45 minute conversation that features Pat Cave and Janice Adams (both Deaf-Blind individuals), Steve Collins (a Deaf interpreter), and Williams Adams (a hearing interpreter) are included on this DVD. Theresa B. Smith facilitates the conversation. Topics of discussion include perceptions and experiences of the Deaf-Blind participants, perceptions and experiences of the interpreters, communication frustrations, and communication needs. The first presentation is an edited version with a voice-over, the second presents all five individuals on the screen at the same time and is only signed.
