Description
The Elephant Game, part of the ASL and Deaf Culture Activity Series, is one of the most well-known cultural activities enjoyed by Deaf individuals of all ages. To play the game, players often called elephants are arranged in a circle and face inward toward the caller or pointer who then selects a person who must immediately form the elephant trunk by placing two S handshapes together in front of his face. Then the two players on each side must form the ears using the B or open B handshapes. If no errors occur then the caller selects another. This goes on until only two or three people are left in the game. This DVD and accompanying required manual present activities where ASL students engage in meaningful language and culture exercises on topics related to the Elephant Game. The activities are rich in classifiers, numbers, geography, ASL literature, fingerspelling, personal narratives, game-playing strategies and idioms and are presented on two levels: novice for high school or college first and second semester students and intermediate for high school or college third and second semester ASL students.
