Description
Families Count! is a program produced by the Clerc Center to bring deaf and hard of hearing students and their families together for fun and learning. Produced by Gallaudet University's Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, this program provides opportunities for family members, teachers, facilitators, counselors, and other support staff to get involved with their deaf and hard of hearing children's math skills. The Families Count! program kit contains complete lessons with guidelines, activities, and materials to implement with Deaf/HH children. There are three different levels corresponding to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Principals and Standards. Each level contains activities and accompanying materials for subject areas such as Geometry, Measurement, Number Sense, Time, and Fractions. There is a DVD for each level that teaches facilitators how to sign math concepts in ASL. In addition, each subject area contains a math-related children's book that is signed by a Deaf adult.
