Description
The genesis of this CD-ROM comes from the discourse genres used in teaching interpreting students. The six genres involved are narrative, procedural, hortatory or persuasive, explanatory, argumentative, and conversational. (Note: The conversational genre is not included; focus is on monologues.) Terminology and parallel texts in English and American Sign Language on canoeing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Northesatern Minnesota are presented and used to demonstrate the different genres. Demonstrations and written texts are included. Material is recommended for both receptive and expressive interpreting practice, intermediate to advanced.
